Obama and the New York City Mosque

I haven't written anything politically oriented lately.  I've been so overwhelmed with summer, and the amount of ugly politics, that I've just buried my head and held my breath.

I just HAVE to weigh in on this one, though.

And my response probably won't be what you think it will...

There is a part of me, the part that loves America and what it was founded on, that believes that Obama was right to say what he did during the Ramadan speech this week.  We ARE a country founded on religious freedom.  We ARE a country that believes in individual liberty.  And if a group of religious Muslims own the piece of property in question, they should be able to build a religious building there.

HOWEVER...I think Obama weenied out when he didn't say DURING THAT SPEECH that he did not believe it was right to build the mosque there.

And I believe that if the individuals who own the property are truly following who they know their god to be, they WOULD NOT build the mosque there.  Out of respect.  Out of a godly love.

Just my two cents...

1. clearly I live in a hole because I have no idea what you're talking about. Only that it's Ramadan because my husband is a pastor, and so I know that. Not that he's a muslim pastor, but .... well, it makes sense, but just doesn't sound like it does. Anyway...

2. do you have a link for this? I'd like to check it out.

Texan Mama...
Go to my brother's blog and look at the 3rd, 4th, and 6th posts from the top. Start with the 6th and work your way up. They deal with this issue.

I know there are even OLDER posts on the mosque issue in general...these are just the ones that involve Obama.

Have fun!

They have a legal right to build a mosque there, but this case is a fine example of the difference between legal and right.

Obama's wussiness and flip-flopping on this issue do not surprise me. It has been his modus operandi all along. Jim Geraghty remarked during the 2008 campaign that "All statements from Barack Obama come with an expiration date. All of them."

It seems that maybe the leaders of the Muslim group looking to build near the site of the 9/11 WTC location are backing down. Good for them.

The discussion going on at your brother's place is fantastic.

I'm totally with you. They absolutely have the right, but have some taste. But according to the people who support it being built, that's a wussie stance.

My fear is what might happen should they build it. There are enough wackados out there who will use it as a target.

It seriously all just makes me head, and my heart, hurt.
